Hospitality – Environmental, Social Governance
In the hospitality industry use of plastics and polyethylene is very common and widespread. For example, use of plastic bottles for shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion; use of plastic glasses for juices and drinks; use of plastic cutlery and use of polyethylene trash bags. All these items create lots of environmental waste which is extremely harmful to the environment. All the guests who stay in hotels and motels do not use all kinds of plastics in everyday life at their homes. So why should hotels and motels give all types of plastics and polyethylene to their customers? Hilton hotel brand is replacing all plastic bottles for shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion with the materials which are more environmentally friendly and recyclable. Great effort by Hilton hotel groups. Accor Hotel group has also taken the initiative to eliminate one-time usable plastics by 2022 from all hotels and IHG is also moving in the direction of getting rid of all plastic cutlery, plates, and glasses from their properties. I hope other hotel brands such as Choice, Best Western can also move to replace all one-time usable plastics from their hotels. This will be good for saving the environment.
From the standpoint of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) hotels can use metal dispensers for shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion in locked covers. Furthermore, the liquid can be dispensed with motion sensors. This will not only eliminate the disposal of harmful plastics but also save wastage of these soaps and shampoo. This is all very important for Environment and Social governance.
